Road Trip! - Exceed in Learning
Road Trip

If you have a family road trip this summer and are starting to get worried about the long journey, take a look at some great ways to pass the time!  There are a lot of fun games to play with your kids that are entertaining for people of all ages.  Who knows, it may even turn the long drive into a fun experience!

1.)    I Spy

This is by far my children’s favorite car game to play.  This classic game is played by taking turns spotting something for others to find.  Many times, young children simply play the game by focusing on colors.  Older children can use different identifiers, such as weight, length, etc.

2.)    Scavenger Hunt

The game entails identifying objects that everyone in the car knows to look for before the game begins.  You can create a list of 10 items to search for during your drive.  The first person who spots an item on the list gets a point!

3.)    License Plate Game

There are a couple of different games you can play with license plates.  One game is to see how many different license plates you can find (from different states). You also can turn it into a trivia game for other children where they have to name neighboring states, capitals, etc. Another game is to find words that include letters from the license plate.  You can make words that use the letters within them.  The more letters you use, the better!

4.)    Add to the Story

For the game, someone will say a sentence, and then each person will take turns adding a sentence to the story.  The story can be about a certain theme, a fun memory, imagination, etc.

5.)    Word Chain

This is a game that can be played with about any word.  The first person chooses a word.  The next person has to come up with a word that begins with the last letter of that word.  This can be fun if you keep it within certain categories (food, sports, states, etc.)  For example – peach – hamburger – radish, etc.

These games are great to add to your next long-distance trip!  They will be sure to make the ride more enjoyable for both you and your kids.  We would love to hear from you about some of your favorite car games to pass the time!
